Is Hair Transplant Surgery Painful?
The pain of hair transplant surgery that we talk about comes in two flavors :
1. The pain during the hair transplant surgery procedure
In order to be pain-free, the doctor will give you a local anaesthetic into the donor area. The injections of the local anesthetic into the scalp are definitely painful to some degree. There is no pain once the local anesthesia takes effect, most patients either fall asleep or just relax and watch a movie during the procedure.
Some say that hair transplant surgery is similar to a visit to the dentist. This does not seem like a description of something that is pain-free. Overall, there is no or very little discomfort in a majority of hair transplants.
2. After hair transplant surgery
After hair transplant surgery, the anaesthetic become to ineffective, You may feel a bit swelling and pain. It is normal and your skull may feel very unusual for weeks. 50% of the patients do not require any pain relievers at all, and the other 50% will take a pain reliever for only one or two days until the discomfort is gone.
