Telogen effluvium, also known as diffuse hair loss. In a normal scalp condition, 85% to 90% of your hair are in the Anagen phase. Around 5% percent of your hair will be in the Catagen phase and 10% in the Telogen phase. Telogen effluvium is an abnormal loss of hair which mainly occurs when some stress causes hair roots to be pushed prematurely into the resting state or due to alteration in the normal hair cycle.

Telogen Effluvium is found to affect more women than man. It is one of the most common types of hair loss affecting young women and even teenage girls. However, recovery is spontaneous and occurs within 6 months generally.

  2. Chronic

You will notice the hair loss is much more than the usual hair loss. You will be noticing a lot of hair accumulating on your pillowcase, on the washbasin and in your hairbrush. A well-known method to check for telogen effluvium involves the pull test. Grabbing a small section of hair and gently pulling should render one or two hairs in the hand. If more hairs are released on a consistent basis telogen effluvium can be suspected.
