Low level laser therapy (LLLT) has been proven to be effective in stimulation of the hair follicle which rests at a 5-6mm depth just below the scalp. The laser light stimulates and increases scalp blood circulation-consequently supplying to the area around the hair follicle. As a result of the increased blood flow, more nutrients are delivered to the hair follicle allowing the body to naturally stabilize hair loss and often regrow hair from dormant follicles. However, It does not reactivate dead follicles.
In addition, this cellular activity breaks down the buildup up DHT which is one of the main causes of hair loss.
A person undergoes a laser hair loss therapy, the dermatologist will use multiple laser devices that are attached to a rotating head. Usually, the hood is placed just 2cm away from the scalp and the laser light can be directed to the balding portion of the patient's head.
Based on clinical trials, low level laser hair loss therapy is work for men and
women who are still not in the advanced stages of hair loss. More than 90% of them
can achieve some positive benefits. And, over 40%
noticed improvements in their hair within 6 weeks of
starting treatment. In most cases, this process can
also be used with Minoxidil and Finasteride.
However, while studies exist that
show some effectiveness in hair regrowth, many hair loss doctors feel that more
research is needed.
