Can it prevent hair loss when you have chemotherapy?

Currently, the cold cap that prevent to hair loss from chemotherapy have not approved from the FDA. However, some manufacturers had performed a FDA approved clinical trial. Clinical trials show that a success rate of up to 85% of the cold cap system is effective in preventing alopecia from anthracycline, etoposide or taxane, but not from anthracycline-taxane combinations or ifosfamide-containing regimens.

And the code cap therapy is not for every patient. Patients who have blood-born cancers, or other cancers that could metastasize in the brain, should not consider cold cap therapy. The code cap lead to shrinkage in blood vessels, therefore obstructing strong chemical substances deployed in chemotherapy from being able to reach the area. The treatment may even do more harm than good.

In addition, not everyone can tolerate wearing the cold cap as it can feel very cold. The patient need to endure the ice cap about 2.5 hours per time. And many patients found the cold caps gave them headaches and were uncomfortable.
