4. Excessive oil in the scalp causes hair loss

The oil is also called sebum, clogs the pores of the scalp, causes inflammation, itching, flaking and stifles follicle growth. In time the hair root is asphyxiated, making it impossible for new hair to grow. Sebum production is increased by androgens which both men and women produce, so people with male pattern baldness also have oily scalps.
