Most people normally shed 50 to 100 hairs a day. But with about 100,000 hairs in the scalp, this amount

1. Inherited hair loss - The most common cause

The medical term for this type of hair loss is Androgenetic Alopecia. Men generally have hair loss concentrated in a specific pattern from the front through to the crown, while women have an overall thinning of the hair throughout the scalp. 2. Telogen effluvium

Telogen effluvium is probably the second most common form of hair loss. In Telogen effluvium, the hair follicles stop growing prematurely and enter into a resting phase. The normal average about 90% hairs are in anagen, 10% in telogen. With telogen effluvium, the anagen ratio may be shifted to 70% anagen, 30% telogen.

A considerable number of different causes for telogen effluvium exist, high fevers, childbirth, major surgery or illnesses. No treatment is needed for most cases, the hairs fall out when a new hair growing beneath it pushes it out. It will grow back within 6 to 9 months.

3. Poor blood flow to the scalp causes hair loss

Poor blood circulation in the scalp causes severe hair loss. Your hair will shrink and die if it does not receive an adequate amount of blood, nutrients, lymph and oxygen.
